About Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release (“MFR”) is a Physical Therapy technique for the treatment for chronic pain - i.e., pain that has been there at least 3-6 months. It is a hands-on, manual technique that is backed up by extensive scientific research and evidence.

The MFR techniques used at Pain Relief PT are those taught by John F. Barnes, PT, of the Myofascial Release Treatment Centers at Malvern, PA and Sedona, AZ. John is an internationally recognized physical therapist, lecturer, author, and the world’s leading authority on MFR.

MFR is treatment designed for you and around you to reduce pain and symptoms. It affects and releases muscles (" Myo") and the tissue ("Fascia") which connects and holds all our bodily structures in place. The fascia forms a continuous web that extends throughout the body, from the top of our head to the tip of our toes. It surrounds every cell, every organ, including nerves, muscles, vessels and bones. These can develop restrictions, becoming hard and stiff, causing pain and limitations, locally or elsewhere in the body. Mind and body, art and science, all come together in MFR, heightening our awareness and releasing the restrictions that are the source of the problem.

MFR treatment as provided by Pain Relief PT includes appropriate exercises to enable, support, train and strengthen body parts which are out of alignment or not functioning as they should.
